Picture of the day: Step into the light
This is from a really short weekend trip down the New South Wales coast of Australia. Seen with local eyes, this isn’t a very large outing, but for me most everything down under has something exotic or at least interesting to it. Actually, it might not be that everyday for the locals either: With every weekend trip I’ve done the last month, the Sydney Morning Herald has had someone create a so ecstatic tribute to the same location even the local tourist bureau would blush of shame. This trip was no different.
Coming home from Kangaroo Valley and Berry, SMH’s Leah McLeod has no shortage of praise for these little towns, again leaving me wondering why I can’t enjoy things in the same blissful, la-dee-daa fashion she apparently can. Not that the towns weren’t nice - they were actually quite pleasant little gatherings of souvenir shops and cafés. But it would’ve been impossible to spend more than an hour in each before it would just get intolerably boring.
Maybe I’m just a curmudgeon who can’t appreciate the good things in life.

What I appreciated, however, was this hanging bridge. I have no idea why we went there, I was half-asleep in the back of the car when we stopped along a dusty road next to a forest. Walking in through the trees we found this bridge stretched across a river. On the other side there was nothing of interest - but we had a drum, a guitar and an harmonica that we dragged out of the trunk, to play a blues on top of the river while the bridge swayed back and forth (in the rhythm of the music, I like to think).
However, I wish I could do as Izabela does on the picture, just walk into the light, happy lala-land on the other side of the river, instead of lurking around in the murky, metaphorical forest of.. yes, of what exactly?
The bridge is the one depicted on this Google satellite photo. It is about 10 minutes outside Kangaroo Valley town. For a photographer, there should be plenty more to photograph there, so it is well worth the visit. Bring a guitar.
