Picture of the day: Step into the light

This is from a really short weekend trip down the New South Wales coast of Australia. Seen with local eyes, this isn’t a very large outing, but for me most everything down under has something exotic or at least interesting to it. Actually, it might not be that everyday for the locals either: With every weekend trip I’ve done the last month, the Sydney Morning Herald has had someone create a so ecstatic tribute to the same location even the local tourist bureau would blush of shame. London: Dead Elvis live, February 2008.

It’s like American culture is rising from the dead. And while some of us perhaps hoped Elvis would offer us eternal salvation when he returned, he is not. This return from the afterlife is of an whole other, zombified and monster-like, kind, and this works pretty good as well. Dead Elvis & His One Man Grave is currently staggering through the European continent on his 2008 tour, scaring people in dark and moldy bars.

There’s not much more to say about that. It’s Elvis, his dead, he’s back, and his got a new take on his music. And a little time in the underworld seems to have done him some good.
